Latino News

As Seen By Luis

All opinions expressed here are solely the opinions of Luis Montano. In no way do they represent the views of our sponsors or anyone affiliated with Columbus Latino. Responses are welcomed.

BUSINESS:

I've done a little research and found that there are over 50 businesses owned or operated by Latino's. The question then is, why is there no Latino Chamber of Commerce to protect and defend our interest? Recently Rae's Pub, owned and operated by a Latina was cornered into submission for violating so called laws of business that over a dozen establishments were already guilty of. I guess there is power in unity; think about it you may be next!!

GOVERNMENT:

Last month the issue of Latinos and law enforcement became an item; today it is a forgotten thought. I guess if you can calm the masses with one short moment of interest, then everything is all right. The problem is that the volatile situation still exists and the ones that are losing are we. Not to worry though each year our population and interest grow, one day we will unite and justice will prevail.

LATINO UNITY:

Recently the Latin Grammy Awards were presented. It was a good presentation and it gave our people the opportunity to be seen and heard by most. I have no problem with this, the problem I have is that afterwards our own Latino community berated and criticized the program even more than anyone else. Not enough of this, not enough of that! LOOK, be glad that we had the opportunity to show our talents. Remember the establishment counts on us fighting amongst ourselves; let's not help them out.

SPORTS:

Well the World Series will soon be here and as a proud Latino I can't wait. Besides I'm guessing it will be a New York victory (Yankees or Mets). I thought I would remind you all of a little Baseball history at this time, these are all members of the Hall of Fame, do you recognize anyone?

CLOSING:

"This is only the beginning; I have established a way for our Latino community to express themselves. Where you can be heard and taken seriously. Everyone around the domino table talks about starting something, well we at Columbus Latino have begun the movement. Now it is your turn to speak your mind. Our views need to be heard throughout this nation or else be silenced by our oppressors."

Muchas Gracias and God Bless You All,
Luis A. Montano
President
